Beginning from the last decades of the XIX century, excellent mountain climber and photographer Vittorio Sella (1859-1943) realized a unique opus unequalled to this day with his mountain photography. The corpus he produced represents a turning point in the history of photography in terms of size and of scientific and aesthetic quality.
The photographs published in this book are special reproductions made from original negatives or positives, depending on circumstances, kept by the Fondazione Sella o.n.l.u.s. in Biella. The pictures by Vittorio Sella, distinguished by rigor and intelligence, were taken on the slopes and peaks of many of our planet’s most beautiful mountains.
